The Architect-Developer

How to Maximize and Finance Green Design in Small-scale Projects

An on-demand e-learning Webcast Seminar - 8 AIA CES/HSW LU's

Architects have a unique opportunity to form diverse and rewarding professional design and real estate development practices with reduced dependence on traditional clients. The properly educated architect-developer can assume ultimate decision-making control of project concept, site selection, budget, design, construction and marketing, by also assuming the role of client-developer. Ultimate project control by the architect-developer should result in better architecture, better construction, better end-user satisfaction, better financial compensation, and increased career security and satisfaction. My approach to architectural practice and small-scale development can be a model for sole practitioners and small to medium size firms struggling to compete for conventional clients against ever larger and stronger A/E firms and design/build competitors. My method is designed to minimize financial and professional liability risk. It does not require significant investment of cash or incurrence of debt by the architect-developer.

This seminar is a blueprint for professional and financial independence for the sole practitioner or small firm.

You will learn:

  • How to research, evaluate and choose the best project for you and your market

  • How to assemble the most credible design and development team

  • How to choose and secure the best funding source

  • How to properly structure a small-scale green design-development deal

  • How to manage and minimize risk

  • How to successfully lease and sell your project

Examples of single-family and multi-family residential and retail commercial projects designed and developed by Richard Andron will be presented and analyzed.
